Readers of newspaper Meditsiiniuudised<\/a><\/i> elected Toivo T\u00e4navsuu Medicine Influencer of the
\nYear 2017. He received 29% of the votes from 363 respondents.<\/p>\n

“I do know Toivo T\u00e4navsuu personally,
\nbut have been keeping an eye on his activities,” said Indrek Oro,
\noncologist of North Estonia Medical Centre. “His activities are of high
\nvisibility, which is why I often find myself admiring his marketing skills and
\nproductivity. The number of patients he has helped with his foundation is ever
\nincreasing, just as the number of those he says he has healed \u2013 by that I mean
\nthe benefactors. As an oncologist I can never underestimate the importance of
\nhis activities.<\/p>\n

General practitioner Karmen Joller said
\nthat Toivo T\u00e4navsuu is one of those people who follows the old Estonian proverb
\nof ‘When you see an issue, come and help’ \u2013 when the state cannot manage it,
\ncommunity must help. “Toivo T\u00e4navsuu has initiated something that has
\nchanged the lives of many families and has given hope and time. Turns out that
\ntime is indeed money. The non-medics who have developed the Estonian medicine
\nin their unique way have my deepest respect,” she added.<\/p>\n

“Toivo T\u00e4navsuu’s initiative has been
\nreally gratifying because he has created a way for connecting people who have
\nmeans and desire to help and those who require our joint support,” said
\nKatrin Romanenkov, the head of health care and communications department of the
\nHealth Insurance Fund. “Toivo T\u00e4navsuu has greatly developed the donation
\nculture in Estonia.”<\/p>\n

“This is a recognition for the entire
\nteam. The Gift of Life’s influence beyond the medicine is even greater
\nactually. For instance, we have also tried to influence and cure the
\npoliticians responsible for health care. We have certainly influenced quite
\nmany healthy people: in 2017 the foundation will grow twice the size in terms
\nof the volume of donations,” said Toivo T\u00e4navsuu, the founder and head of
\nthe Gift of Life cancer treatment foundation.<\/p>\n

“In my opinion, everyone who do not
\nintend to fall ill and do something systematically for it, such as giving up
\nsmoking or alcohol, taking up regular sports or activities, making their walks
\nlonger and making more healthy choices in terms of their diet, are the true
\nmedicine influencers,” he added.<\/p>\n

Medical Influencer of the Year is selected
\nby readers of newspaper Meditsiiniuudised<\/i>,
\nthe majority of whom are health professionals. Toivo T\u00e4navsuu received 29% of
\nthe votes from 363 respondents. Second place was won by Marek Vink, the head of
\nthe Estonian Dental Association, and third place by Karmen Joller, a general
\npractitioner from Kivim\u00e4e general practice centre.<\/p>\n

The Medical Influencer of the Year has been
